Keyword-stuffing.

The devil!

We’re joking (kind of).

Keyword-stuffing is simply an outdated SEO technique. Back in the day, when users typed a phrase into Google’s search bar, the algorithm looked for sites with lots of words matching their query.

For example, if you typed “best houseplants in Brisbane”, Google would show you websites that contained that exact phrase. So, naturally, SEO workers started stuffing their website copy with as many keywords as possible.

The downside? It was a nightmare for actual humans to read.

Thankfully, Google got smarter. Now, they actually penalise websites that try to trick the algorithm by keyword-stuffing. Through a series of updates, they’ve let the world know the best way of ranking on Google is to provide high-quality, informative content that keeps users engaged.
